Police officers responding to a case of a home invasion robbery in Desert Hot Springs Thursday discovered a pipe bomb in the home. According to the Desert Hot Springs police, officers went to a home in the 67700 block of Loma Vista Road about 6 p.m. to take a report on the home invasion robbery. The victim said an acquaintance had come to his house with four unknown men who brandished guns and forced their way inside. The robbers stole numerous items including a vehicle, and then fled. Officers returned to the home later and noticed what appeared to be an improvised explosive device near the front door. Residents were evacuated and a perimeter established around the outside of the home. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Hazardous Device Team arrived and about 10:20, the bomb was removed from the home and detonated safely outside. Detectives from the Desert Hot Springs police department are investigating.
