A blood bank in San Bernardino is pro-actively collecting plasma from recovered COVID-19 patients in the hopes it can help win the battle against this deadly virus. Reporter Heather Clisby has the details…
Banking on the possibility that survivors of COVID-19 carry powerful healing antibodies, San Bernardino’s LifeStream Blood Bank is actively collecting and processing blood donations from recovered COVID-19 patients. They are also working on developing technologies to detect and quantify such antibodies.
Though still technically unproven, early studies indicate that this so-called “convalescence plasma” may contain immune-boosting properties that could treat those afflicted with COVID-19.
Operating under FDA protocols, Lifestream hospital partners will refer potential donors at least 14 days beyond their last symptoms. All qualified donors must be pre-screened by healthcare providers and LifeStream personnel.
