A woman riding an off-road vehicle in San Berdoo Canyon in the southern part of Joshua Tree National Park was shot by a BLM ranger Sunday. According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, park rangers had requested the assistance of rangers from the Bureau of Land Management Sunday for a pursuit of off-road vehicles that were being driven illegally in a remote area in the southern part of the national park, east of Dillon Road. According to the Sheriff’s Department, the shooting occurred when the BLM ranger attempted to stop the ORV. The injured woman received injuries to her hand and head. Riverside Sheriff’s deputies were called in to investigate about 11 p.m. Sunday. The injured woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The BLM officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, per department policy.
