Black Rock Art Gallery debuts “Art Trading Cards” show created by local students

Joshua Tree National Park’s Black Rock Art Gallery is debuting a new show on Friday (March 31) that features work made by local students. Morongo Valley-based non-profit Groundwork Arts worked with Yucca Valley-based artist Juan Thorp to provide instruction to local youngers.

Thorp instructed students in the practice of automatism, creative process that allows the unconscious mind to create by drawing with no plan or preconceived idea, which were used to create a series of trading cards that will be featured in the show.

The exhibition work from Thorp and the students will run from March 31 through April 26 at the Black Rock Art Gallery in the Black Rock Nature Center, located at 9800 Black Rock Canyon Rd, Yucca Valley, CA 92284. There will be an opening reception on Friday (March 31) from 5pm to 7pm.

The building is open 7 days a week, 8am – 11am, 12pm-4pm.
