California’s desert communities will celebrate the National Park Service Centennial and highlight the region’s protected public lands with free events throughout October and November. One of the first events is this Sunday in the newly designated Sand to Snow National Monument. One of three public lands now permanently protected for generations to explore and enjoy. Join lifelong ‘bird nerd’ Seth Shteir this Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. to learn about the ecological importance of Big Morongo Canyon Preserve. Shteir will cover the basics of bird ecology, identification and conservation on this easy walk. Binoculars will be provided.
