BIGHORN DESERT VIEW WATER GETS A BIG GIFT FROM THE STATE

The Bighorn-Desert View Water Agency has big plans. You would too, if you awoke to find a half million dollars had been deposited to your bank account. Reporter Mike Lipsitz picks up the story from here…
Last month the California State Water Resources Control Board awarded $500,000 in grant funding to the little water agency. Bighorn is required to use the money for planning purposes, but is not required to put up matching funds. General Manager Marina West says the agency plans to use most of the gift to integrate the Bighorn-Desert View water system, which serves Flamingo Heights and the western part of Landers, with the Landers system, which serves the eastern part of Landers around Goat Mountain. The latter was annexed from the county in 2015. Currently the two operate as wholly isolated and independent systems. West said confidence is high the public agency will receive a construction grant at the end of the planning phase.
