Much to the delight of those in attendance, the Bighorn Desert View Water Agency last night approved an effort to take over the County operated water service in the Landers area. Reporter Mike Lipsitz was there and files this report…..
Applause erupted from the standing-room-only crowd after last night’s 5–0 vote of the Bighorn-Desert View Water Agency Board to begin the process for the Agency to take over water service from County Special Districts. If successful, Bighorn-Desert View will increase in size by 30 percent and residents of east Landers would see their rate drop to achieve parity with Bighorn current rates. Property tax assessments would not change under the plan. Existing customers of Bighorn-Desert View will see no immediate change, but expectations are that economies of scale will eventually benefit all who live in Landers and Flamingo Heights. The process is expected to take six to 10 months before a takeover would be complete. In other business last night, Judy Corl-Lorono was elected board president.
