BIGHORN DESERT VIEW WATER AGENCY SLAPPED WITH UNEXPECTED BILL

The Bighorn-Desert View Water Agency last week was slapped with an unexpected bill for $130,000. Tonight, they must decide how to pay it. Reporter Mike Lipsitz tells us what this is all about…
The Bighorn-Desert View Water Agency will hold the regular monthly board of directors meeting tonight at 6 p.m. In addition to an annual review and update of the agency’s conflict of interest and code of conduct policies, directors must decide how to repay the county more than $130,000 it was overpaid in the form of corporate tax allocations. The problem can be traced back to an accounting error the county made back in 2006 and repeated annually until 2016. But it wasn’t until just over a week ago that the agency received a call from the county auditor’s office notifying them of the overpayments and inquiring if the small water agency would rather return the money in one fell swoop or in annual payments spread over five years. That decision will be made under the old water tower on Cherokee Trail in Landers where the agency’s board meeting office is located.
