BIG READ PANEL AT SPACE COWBOYS BOOKS SATURDAY

As community events and workshop celebrating the NEA’s Big Read Morongo Basin continue, literary questions have arisen. Reporter Heather Clisby illustrates the foreshadowing…

As part of the Big Read Morongo Basin, Space Cowboy Books will host a panel discussion featuring local authors Jon Christopher, Susan Rukeyser, Gabriel Hart and Jean-Paul Garnier. The guest authors have all published in various sub-genres of science fiction, thus the conversation will focus on the differences, similarities and overall blurry perimeters of a literary genre.

The chosen book, “Station Eleven” by Emily St. John Mandel, takes place after a flu pandemic has wiped out most of the population and carries themes of speculation, survival and been labeled “dystopian fiction.”

The panel will take place on Saturday, September 21, at 3 pm. Space Cowboy Books is located at 61871 Twentynine Palms Highway in Joshua Tree.
