As the Holcomb fire Northeast of Big Bear enters its fifth day, Highway 18 reopened at 6:00 a.m. this morning. Drivers are asked to reduce their speed and be alert for fire personnel and heavy equipment on the road as firefighters continue to work in the area. Now 65 percent contained, firefighters manage to hold the fire to 1,562 acres while battling warm temperatures and difficult terrain. The U.S. Forest service said firefighting efforts will benefit from lighter winds and increased humidity. Given the critically dry and receptive fuel types, residents and visitors should continue to be aware of fire conditions and be prepared if changes or new fire threatens the community. The public is being asked to call 9-1-1 if a new fire is spotted outside the perimeter. Over 1,200 firefighters from multiple agencies are working to contain the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation
