A bicyclist thought he was being shot at as he was riding on a dirt road in Twentynine Palms Wednesday evening. About 8 p.m., the unidentified bike rider said he was riding his bike northbound on Timothy Avenue, south of Indian Trail, when a man came out of a trailer parked in the desert and yelled that the bike rider was trespassing. The bike rider reported to deputies that the owner shot at him, but deputies later determined that the resident had fired a warning shot into the dirt next to himself, and that no one was actually shot at or injured. The owner believed he owned the road because he had bought land on both sides of Timothy Avenue. He had placed a ladder across the road with a sign that trespassers would be shot. The Sheriff’s report noted that the owner was advised on how to properly address allegations of trespassing.
