BEWARE OF PHONE APP SCAMMERS

Cyber scammers come up with different, inventive ways to entice you to fall victim to their trickery. Rebecca Havely says flattery may get you scammed…
Smartphone users, if you receive a text from an unknown number with a message claiming a friend has written a compliment about you in a new app. Delete it, it’s more than likely a scam. The text may include a link that prompts you to download a specific app on your phone. You may find hundreds of glowing reviews online for the app but that’s part of the scam. In the fine print, downloading the app automatically grants access to your contacts and all of your saved numbers. It then sends the same message to all your contacts and it allows the fraudsters to sell your contact info and all your friends info, on the black market for future scam targets. It’s safer to delete the message and avoid any potential issues.
