Local residents were saddened to discover that a local landmark that has stood for nearly three decades was stolen last week. Reporter Heather Clisby has the details…

Last Friday morning, March 22, local resident Vickie Waite awoke to the terrible news that the metal sculpture created by her late husband, Terry, had been cruelly taken in the dead of night.

Depicting a 16- by 20-inch raven, the metal sculpture was located at the corner of Hillcrest and Indian Trail in Twentynine Palms, and was a favorite landmark for 28 years. The iron spire that held the raven is badly bent but still remains.

Terry Waite moved here with his wife and family in 1990 from Topanga Canyon, primarily for the space that allows for large-scale creations such as the raven that is now missing. Terry died in 2000.

Vickie Waite has filed an incident report with local law enforcement but because the sculpture was located on a corner lot owned by another resident, a formal police report will have be filed by that person.
