BEARS SPOTTED IN COVINGTON PARK IN MORONGO VALLEY

A family of bears have been causing some concern at Covington Park in Morongo valley. Reporter Tami Roleff tells you what to do if you have a close encounter of the bear kind…
A momma bear and at least one cub have been spotted in Covington Park in Morongo Valley. Morongo Valley Fire Chief Jock Johnson said the bears have been coming to the park at night for a couple weeks and going through trash containers, looking for food. The momma bear is so big, he says, that she can tip over the heavy concrete trash containers. Johnson says if you see a bear at the park, you should leave immediately and call county animal control (800-472-5609). He also asks that if you have a picnic in the park, that you bring your food trash home to throw it away and not leave it in the trash barrels. According to Johnson, the park was visited by bears last year for about a month and a half, and he hopes they will be leaving for the mountains soon.
