It’s summer and it’s fire season. While the Morongo Basin has been moderately lucky so far this year, everyone of us should continue doing their part to prevent fires.
The San Bernardino County Fire Department, which oversees a significant portion of the Morongo Basin has advice as to how you can keep up to date on fire emergencies. County Fire South Desert Division 4 Battalion Chief Travis Aguirre explains the county’s telephone emergency notification system, called TEN:
“On our website, you have the ability to sign up for our telephone emergency notification system, that will keep our residents aware of and updated on any potential emergencies around them, any evacuations that may be underway.
When we do have wildfires, our residents call the fire department for information, but our fire fighters are out working on that fire, and we’re not able to answer those phone calls. If they log in and sign up for our program, they will automatically get notifications for when evacuations are necessary.”
