BE FIRE SMART WHEN COOKING OUTDOORS

The summer heat is here, which means less indoor cooking over a hot stove and more outdoor barbecues with cooler nighttime entertaining. While grilling is a standard of summertime activities, remember that it only takes one wayward spark in a gentle breeze to turn a perfect gathering into a costly, dangerous brush fire. Reporter Hilary Sloane will tell you how to stay fire safe…

To prevent outdoor fires, keep your fire pits, personal fireplaces, barbeques, and torches at least 10 feet from your home or anything that can burn. In addition, clean your grill regularly, check for gas leaks, keep decorations away from your grill, keep a spray bottle of water handy, keep a fire extinguisher within a couple of steps of your grill, turn on the gas while your grill lid is closed, and never leave a grill unattended. Also, check your property for flammable materials, ensuring their safe storage, or dispose of them at your local San Bernardino County Hazardous Household Waste site. Finally, enjoy the summer and be safe.
