Basin Bike Path events aim to mobilize cyclists into using existing bike paths around the Morongo Basin and advocating for more bike lanes to be developed on Twentynine Palms Highway and other major thoroughfares. Each event allocates a different venue to be the “Bicycle Cafe” for the day. Eric Linnert, founder of the Basin Bike Path project is organizing another event around a bike ride and a bicycle cafe. The first Basin bike ride took place in May 2026 and was a ringing success. 35 cyclists pedalled from Nosotros event space in Yucca Valley to the Bicycle Cafe for the day Matson Ambroise on Twentynine Palms Highway. Over eats and drinks, riders exchanged stories and socialized. Participants received swag from the event including a badge pronouncing them founding riders.

The goal of the Basin Bike Path project is to imitate what is already happening elsewhere in southern California, which is to use access roads to flood channels as bike paths. Bicycles are allowed to ride on the shoulder of Twentynine Palms Highway and other main roads, but often there is no shoulder, or else it is full of debris. An official, maintained bike lane from Yucca Valley to Twentynine Palms, looping back through Joshua Tree National Park, is high on Eric Linnert’s wish list .

This time the “Bicycle Cafe” is the 29 Palms Beer Company, located at 73565 Twentynine Palms Highway. The starting and finishing points of the ride, the Beer company is offering a 10% discount on food and beverages to cyclists. Participants will meet on Saturday November 7 at 11:00 a.m. The four-mile route to be pedalled includes El Paseo drive, Mesquite Springs road, Two mile road, Adobe road, the Channel trail and back to Twentynine Palms Highway and the Beer company. The City of Twentynine Palms has been designing and developing this Channel trail section, which is a multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists
