Good news for military families: the Basic Allowance Housing rates will be increased in 2024. The Department of Defense announced the 2024 The Basic Allowance Housing rates, or BAH rates, on Thursday (December 14), and say that they will increase by an average of 5.4 percent.
BAH rates are part of military compensation packages for all eligible military members living in certain residential areas near military bases, and ensure that they can afford to live in these areas, regardless of market forces. The City of Twentynine Palms, is included among those areas where BAH rates are utilized. The Department of Defense estimates that the new BAH budget, which takes effect on January 1, will see an estimated $27.9 billion paid to approximately one million service members.
