The Morongo Valley Community Services District will hold an election this month to elect three members to its board of directors. Voters should start receiving their ballots next week for the mail-in election. Reporter Mike Lipsitz gives a brief look at each of the candidates running for the board…
Next month, Morongo Valley voters will choose from among six candidates to fill three seats on the Community Services District. With difficult decisions looming, interest is high In this contentious Mail Ballot Election The candidates are evenly divided between two approaches to governing. Jack Cunningham and Karen Lowe are running together; Hap Trowbridge is running alone, but all three feel that the present board is overspending. They say the CSD was able to live within its means in the past and that overspending has lead to financial instability. On the other side, Gayl Swarat, and incumbents Kristina Brook and Glen Shepherd say past practices of cutting corners and dodging regulations lead to the current environment where expensive lawsuits, high insurance rates, and costly repairs have forced the present board to use funds they’d preferred to leave in the treasury. Voters should begin receiving ballots on August 6th for return to the Registrar of Voters by August 27.
