BALLOT COUNT CONTINUES, MEASURE J IMPROVEMENT MOOT, NO LOCAL CHANGE

As the San Bernardino County elections office continues to count ballots, the results have changed for Measure J, a measure sponsored by the board of supervisors to amend the county charter. On Wednesday morning, Measure J had failed, but by Thursday afternoon, it had passed by 30 votes. However, Measure K, a citizen’s initiative to amend the county charter, was passed overwhelmingly, by a two-to-one margin. Under election rules, the measure with the most votes wins, so the county charter will be amended according to Measure K, which will limit supervisors to one term and limit their compensation to $60,000. As the counting continues, there have been no changes in the results of close local races.
