Student backpacks will be given away, and T-Dap vaccines and dental screenings will be some of the many services offered during a community back-to-school day in Joshua Tree. In addition to the backpacks and health screenings, the event will provide information on how to sign up for the school lunch program, and information for homeless or displaced students and families, on domestic violence, and on transitional age youth and family services. The event is sponsored by the school district and various community outreach programs, and will be held from 9 to noon Thursday, August 13, at the Joshua Tree Sportsman’s Club, 6225 Sunburst Avenue. Students must be present to receive a backpack. School supplies and on-site medical services are provided at no cost.
