BACKHOE CAUSES MAJOR GAS LEAK IN YUCCA VALLEY WEDNESDAY

A backhoe struck a gas line causing a major gas leak in Yucca Valley yesterday. According to Sheriff’s Sergeant Matt Yost, a construction company backhoe had dug a 5-foot-deep hole in the 7300 block of Hanford Avenue, between Yucca Trail and Arcadia Trail, when it struck the gas line about 11:35 a.m. Sheriff deputies and firefighters closed off the street for a couple hours while waiting for SoCal Gas employees to arrive to shut off the gas. Yost said the gas smell was very strong and the leak could have easily blown up the entire neighborhood. SoCal Gas reminds residents to call 811 before they start digging.

Hanford Avenue in Yucca Valley was closed for hours Wednesday after a backhoe caused a major gas leak in an underground pipe.
