BACKGROUND HISTORY ON SEXUALLY VIOLENT PREDATOR WHO MAY BE MOVING TO JOSHUA TREE

Z107.7 news has more information on the sexually violent predator who may be moving to Joshua Tree. Ross Wollschlager, a convicted rapist and child molester, suffers from voyeurism and paraphilia, according to state psychologists who have examined him. In 1983, a jury convicted him of entering the bedrooms of two women he did not know and raping them. He served a prison term and was released on parole in 1987. In 1989, he entered the bedroom of a 10-year-old girl and forcibly molested her. A jury convicted him of committing lewd acts on a child and he served another prison term. In 1996, a jury declared he was a sexually violent predator. In 2002, an appeals court denied his request to be conditionally released, citing three psychologists who said it was likely he would re-offend. In 2007, Wollschlager was conditionally released. He did well the first year. However, he was returned to custody in 2009 when he was found with pornography. He was conditionally released again in 2010 but 3 weeks later, he had contact with children, violating the terms of his release. His conditional release was revoked and he was sent back to Coalinga State Hospital. He is now petitioning to be released again. After residents in Sacramento County revolted when they were informed he was moving there, a judge in Ventura County ruled he could move to Joshua Tree, where he has no ties. A public meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Joshua Tree Sportsman’s Club where residents can voice their concerns.

Sheriff John McMahon will appear live on a special “Z107.7 Up Close Show” with Gary Daigneault this Wednesday, October 23, 2019, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. McMahon will give an update on the progress of efforts to keep Wollschlager out of Joshua Tree. The public will have an opportunity to call in live and discuss the process with McMahon. The live radio show can be heard on the air at 107.7 FM and on-line at www.z1077fm.com
