AXE-THROWING COMING TO TWENTYNINE PALMS THIS FRIDAY

Shooting galleries and archery ranges may unleash your inner warrior but what about your ancient inner warrior? For that, you may need to pick up an axe… and throw it, hard and far. Reporter Heather Clisby has the sharp details…

Ever fancied yourself a fierce Viking in battle? How about a Norse god? A tough lumberjack? Your wait is over. Come May 10, Twentynine Palms will welcome The Boardroom, an axe-throwing league geared for competitive types who seek a new challenge.

Owners Chuck and Bridget Wilcox applied for and received approval for The Boardroom from the Twentynine Palms Planning Commission last June. In their application letter, the Wilcox’s described the sport as “darts with an adrenaline rush.”

The indoor range will feature targets where members can practice their axe-throwing skills against other competitors. No experience is required and coaches will be available for instruction and guidance. The axes weigh less than two pounds and the facilities will be open to kids 12 and older; those 18 and under will require a parent’s signed release.

Coast is $20 per hour per person with a $2 discount for veterans, active military and first responders. The Boardroom is located 5823 Adobe Road in Twentynine Palms. For more info, call 760-910-9500. TAG: A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at the Boardroom axe-throwing business Thursday, May 9, at 4 p.m. And true to the nature of the business, owners Bridget and Chuck Wilcox say the ribbon will be cut with an axe, not a giant scissors.
