The axe swung at Yucca Valley’s town hall yesterday. Managing Editor Tami Roleff says the Town yesterday announced the results of restructuring of Town staff in an attempt to trim the budget…
The Town of Yucca Valley announced Thursday that it is cutting its staff by seven positions through early retirements and the elimination of some positions, all in an attempt to balance the budget, which currently has a deficit of $400,000. Those employees opting to take advantage of the early retirement incentive program are the town clerk, community services director, museum supervisor, animal shelter administrative assistant II, code compliance technician, and museum assistant. Three positions have been eliminated: associate planner, and two recreation coordinators. Of the early retirements, two positions will be filled: the animal shelter administrative assistant, and code compliance technician. A new position of recreation supervisor will be created and filled from within. In addition, a resignation in the public works department of a skilled maintenance worker II for roads will be left unfilled. The number of full-time employees for the Town will fall from 41.75 to 34. 75, which is expected to save the Town $300,000 the first year with an annual savings of $725,000 in subsequent years.
