Martie Avels, a board member of the Morongo Basin Healthcare District, has announced she does not intend to seek re-election to the board in November. Avels, who has worked at the hospital for 30 years as a nurse and administrator and who also serves as a community member on the Hi-Desert Medical Center’s governing board, said in a statement, “I leave with confidence in the knowledge that the Morongo Basin Healthcare District is in good hands. As the District marked its one-year anniversary with strong leadership and dedicated staff, it is evident that we are now poised to carry out our mission of improving the health and wellness of the residents of the Morongo Basin.” Avels said she will continue to serve on the Medical Center’s governing board.
