A man on probation for domestic assault was arrested for investigation into stabbing a woman with a screwdriver in Twentynine Palms. Deputies responded to a report that a woman had attacked at around 4:50 a.m. early Monday morning (July 22). The woman had returned to a room at the Fairfield Inn & Suites on Encelia Ave, but told deputies that she had been stabbed with a screwdriver and bitten by a man at a different, unidentified location. Two women were arrested for investigation into assault after what Sheriff's Deputies described as a "brawl" at Yucca Bowl in Yucca Valley. After a hit-and-run caused damage to a homeowner’s fence in Yucca Valley, the driver allegedly returned to the scene to protect his car and was arrested for investigation into DUI. Just before 1:30 a.m. on Sunday (July 21st), Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a hit-and-run traffic collision near the intersection of Joshua Dr. and Church St. in Yucca Valley. Basin Transit BOD meets Thursday (7/25): free fares for 35th Anniversary, contracts

35 days of free fares are on the agenda for tomorrow's (July 25) meeting of the Basin Transit Board of Directors. The board will consider a month of free bus fares as a way to celebrate Basin Transit's 35th anniversary. The board will also recognize their employee of the quarter and consider awarding a number of contracts to technology, planning, and manufacturing work. Tomorrow's meeting is open to the public and begins at 5 p.m.at Basin Transit's office at 62405 Verbena Road in Joshua Tree.

Sheriff’s Gang and Narcotics Division makes Yucca Valley arrest as part of Operation: Consequences

An arrest was made in Yucca Valley last week by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Gang/Narcotics Division. Between July 13 and July 19 the Sheriff's Department served 13 search warrants related to gang members and felons believed to be in possession of weapons or narcotics as part of Operation: Consequences. Suspected tool robbery in Landers ends in arrest

An alleged robbery of tools led to a hospitalization and an arrest of a man on parole. At around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday (July 18), a witness reported an altercation between neighbors in Landers. The report made to the Sheriff’s Department indicates that an 85 year-old got into a conflict with Eddie Lowery, 52, over the whereabouts of tools in the 59000 block of Philippi Lane in Landers. Adobe Road fully reopened after last week’s storm

Adobe Road is now fully open. A key stretch of Adobe Road in Twentynine Palms was closed for the majority of last week between Raymond Drive and Amboy Road, on account of flooding,  mud and debris from a short but heavy storm on July 14. The City of Twentynine Palms announced that the road had reopened over the weekend. In a social media post, City officials recognized the work of the Public Works crew, the Emergency Operations Manager and the staff of the Twentynine Palms Water District.

Joshua Tree National Park looking for local volunteers for nursery and vegetation programs

The volunteer program at Joshua Tree National Park is recruiting volunteers for two new opportunities - and they are looking to recruit locally from the Morongo basin and Coachella Valley communities. The first volunteer position will work with park staff at the National Park headquarters as a Nursery and Herbarium Technician.
