Twentynine Palms man arrested on Sunday for violent sexual acts

A man in Twentynine Palms was arrested Sunday (July 28) for rape by force and sexual crimes involving a victim under the age of 14. At 3:45 p.m., Sheriff’s Deputies contacted Nathan Jones, 18, at a residence in the 5000 block of Adobe Road in Twentynine Palms. While there, they placed him under arrest for investigation of "violent sexual acts". The details of the crime are not known, nor is the status of the victim. Robert Leone, the former mayor of Yucca Valley and long-time member of the Town Council, passed away on Saturday. He was 89 years old. After serving in both the New York and Los Angeles Police Departments, Leone and his wife Betty moved to Yucca Valley in the early 1990s. The Marine killed during a training exercise over the weekend has been identified. The Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center announced yesterday that Staff Sgt. Jerry Betzold was killed after a rollover collision during a training exercise on Saturday (July 27). Betzold was 26 years-old and originally from Avon, Indiana.
