The Twentynine Palms High School Varsity Basketball Team traveled away to Shadow Hills Friday night. Coach Mike Schneider said the game started with nice defensive efforts for both teams. A Twentynine Palms couple was arrested Saturday morning after they were found stealing metal from a home in Wonder Valley. According to the Sheriff's Department, a neighbor called about 11:20 to report that an unfamiliar pick-up truck was parked in the 89100 block of Calle de Oro in Wonder Valley, and two people were loading metal and other items into the back of the truck. A Twentynine Palms man was arrested after Sheriff deputies say he abused his wife. According to a Sheriff's report of the incident, deputies brought Chadwick Novak, who was drunk, to his home in the 7400 block of Sahara Avenue in Twentynine Palms about 3:45 a.m. Saturday. After he got home, he threw his wife to the ground, then locked himself in a bedroom with a rifle. The California Highway Patrol is looking for the driver of a red sedan responsible for an accident in Twentynine Palms that injured a Yucca Valley woman. New technology is bringing changes to how you get forms and instructions from the IRS. Reporter Dan Stork says those forms are no longer being mailed… Effective last year, the Internal Revenue Service no longer mails paper income tax packages to taxpayers. Jurors are in the second day of deliberations today after a three-month-long trial in the case of a Palm Springs man who is accused of the 2007 murder of a Yucca Mesa woman. YUCCA VALLEY MAN ACCUSED OF TRYING TO MURDER WIFE IN BIG BEAR

A Yucca Valley man is in custody, accused of trying to murder his estranged wife at her home in Big Bear. According to the Sheriff's department, Marvin Engebretson, 71, of the 7500 block of Palm Avenue, forced his way into his wife's home, threatened to kill her with a gun, beat her, and held her against her will. His wife finally managed to convince Engebretson to let her go and she notified the Big Bear Sheriff's department. Marvin Engebretson was arrested at his home January 15…
