MORONGO BASIN TRANSIT AUTHORITY BOARD MEETS TOMORROW

The Morongo Basin Transit Authority will meet at 5:00 tomorrow at the MBTA Operations Center, 62405 Verbena Road in Joshua Tree. Among items of interest on the agenda are recognition of the employee of the quarter, election of board officers and "member at large" for 2012, sub-committee assignments, and approval of a grant to purchase a Class E vehicle.

Tomorrow at 1 p.m., the San Bernardino County Department of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS) and the Senior Affairs Commission invite you to a public meeting concerning the needs of senior citizens. Sky's The Limit, STL, a nonprofit organization working to build an Observatory and Nature Center in Twentynine Palms,¬ has received a $10,000 grant from the County Board of Supervisors for the construction of an observatory dome. The military and civilian communities of the Morongo Basin mourn the death of a Twentynine Palms Marine. The Department of Defense announced the death Corporal Christopher G. Singer, 23, of Temecula, who died Saturday while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. According to the North County Times, Singer died when he was shot on patrol. Alan Anthony is survived by his wife Life, stepdaughters Tracey Nolte of Joshua Tree, and Elizabeth Roy of Buckner, Missouri; brother Edward Anthony of San Bernardino; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. JOSHUA TREE RECREATION BASKETBALL AND TENNIS REGISTRATION SATURDAY

This Saturday from 9 to 1 p.m., the Joshua Tree Recreation and Parks District Office will be open to accept registrations for the Spring Basketball and Team Tennis Programs. Sport seasons will begin the week of March 11 and last eight weeks long. All practices and games will be played outdoors at Sunburst Park in Joshua Tree.
