DUI SATURATION PATROLS

Local CHP and Sheriff's deputies will be on maximum DUI enforcement this weekend. The Fourth of July is one of the deadliest holidays of the year due to alcohol-impaired driving crashes. The state's DUI task force is stepping up enforcement efforts to catch and arrest impaired drivers who put themselves and others at risk. The Sheriff will staff extra DUI units through Saturday. Remember, if you drink, don't drive.

VEHICLE THEFT ARRESTS IN 29 PALMS

Three people were arrested early Monday morning after a Twentynine Palms resident reported seeing headlights at a vacant home. According to a Sheriff's report, a resident in the 2900 block of Bluegrass Avenue, saw headlights and a vehicle in a neighbor's driveway. After verifying with the homeowner that no one was supposed to be at the home, the neighbor called the Sheriff shortly before 3:30 Monday morning. PROBATION OFFICERS DEPLOYED

On June 30, the San Bernardino County Probation Department deployed the final seven Probation Officers to be stationed at law enforcement agencies as a result of AB 109, the State Prison Realignment Plan. This brings the total number of Probation Officers assigned to work directly at police departments and Sheriff's substations to twenty-five. COUNTY CONFISCATES FIREWORKS

Investigation by San Bernardino County Fire Investigators and Fire Prevention Officers on random days during the months of June and July resulted in confiscation of 7,750 pounds of illegal, dangerous fireworks, and two felony arrests have been made. A federal jury in Southern California has convicted a former U.S. Marine of illegally possessing a chrome-plated AK-47 that may have once belonged to a member of Saddam Hussein's royal guard. Assistant U.S. Attorney Allen Chiu said in a statement Tuesday that 40-year-old Joel Cleve Miller, of Twentynine Palms, was found guilty last week of illegally possessing a machine gun. JOSHUA TREE MAN ARRESTED FOR SPOUSE ABUSE

A Joshua Tree man was arrested after an argument with his girlfriend turned physical. According to a Sheriff's report, Benjamin Monroy, 21, was arguing with his girlfriend near Park Drive and Commercial Street in Joshua Tree when his girlfriend said he choked her and scratched her neck. After an investigation, Benjamin Monroy was arrested on suspicion of felony spouse abuse, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $50,000.

OFF-ROADER FOUND DEAD IN WONDER VALLEY

A Wonder Valley man was found dead next to his off-road vehicle Friday evening after he was reported missing. Sheriff's deputies were notified Friday morning at 11:20 that Michael Casseaux, 50, was not returning calls or phone calls after drinking all night and leaving his child with a friend.
