CADIZ RELEASES WATER PLAN ENVIRONMENTAL REPORT

The Los Angeles-based Cadiz Company released the final environmental impact report for its proposed Mojave Desert water pipeline on Friday. Cadiz proposes to build a 43-mile pipeline connecting an underground water source, about 50 miles southwest of Needles, to the Colorado River Aqueduct. 8TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT RECOUNT STOPPED, NO CHANGE

An 8th Congressional District candidate who finished third in the June primary ended a recount he had requested. Philip Liberatore of Lake Arrowhead brought the 24-precinct recount to a halt just three hours after it began Friday morning, said county Registrar Mike Scarpello. Officials at the San Bernardino County Registrar's Office had gotten through six precincts before Liberatore ended the recount, held at Liberatore's expense. ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN MORONGO VALLEY

Sharp eyes and a good memory by a Sheriff's sergeant led to the arrest of at least two people suspected in an armed robbery in Morongo Valley in April. Early Thursday morning, Sergeant Trevis Newport was patrolling in Yucca Valley when he saw a car, belonging to people suspected of being involved in the robbery, drive westbound on the highway. One man was arrested after a shooting incident in Yucca Valley Friday Night. Sheriff's Sergeant Richard Hutchens said deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the area of El Dorado and Barron at about 11 p.m. Deputies contacted Douglas Hiday, 29, who told them he had been in a fight with several individuals there.
