PAROLEE AT LARGE ARRESTED DURING A ROUTINE TRAFFIC STOP

A routine traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a dangerous parolee-at-large in Yucca Valley. Saturday night at about 9:15, Deputy Chris Coillot, conducted a traffic enforcement stop at Church Street and Pima Trail on a vehicle that had a modified exhaust system. While speaking to the occupants of the vehicle, Deputy Coillot recognized the passenger, Derek Cowley, 25, of Yucca Valley, who was considered an armed and dangerous parolee-at-large. WOMAN KILLED IN OFF-ROAD ACCIDENT IN JOHNSON VALLEY

A Loma Linda woman was killed yesterday when she crashed her off-road motorcycle in the desert in Johnson Valley. According to the San Bernardino Coroner's office, Kathy Jo Lindley, 42, had been riding her Honda off-road motorcycle eastbound on Joshua Tree Road, about a quarter-mile east of Old Woman Springs Road, when she lost control, veered off the road to the north, and struck a utility pole. Lindley was declared dead on the scene at 6:34 p.m. due to her injuries.

JOSHUA BASIN WATER DISTRICT APPROVES TURTLE ISLAND AGREEMENT WITH CHAMBER

At last night's meeting of the Joshua Basin Water District, the board approved an agreement with Joshua Tree Chamber of Commerce to give up to $100 of water each month for the Turtle Island garden. The water conservation and demonstration garden, now under renovation, is on the south side of the highway in downtown Joshua Tree.
