Made popular in 1950 by the Jimmy Stewart film about a man and his invisible friend, a six-foot tall rabbit named “Harvey,” this fast-paced comedy is set in the 1940s era. Male characters include the leading role of Elwood P. Dowd; he’s 35-55. Wilson is a devoted orderly in his 20s to 50s, and Judge Gaffney, an old family friend. The young Dr. Sanderson is in his 20s to 30s, and the older Dr. Chumley is in his 50s to 80s. Also needed a male taxi driver. Female roles include Betty Chumley, the doctor’s kind, talkative wife; Veta Louise Simmons, the lead characters’ younger sister; Myrtle Mae Simmons, his self-centered young niece; Ruth Kelly, a young pretty nurse; Ethel Chauvenet, an elite town socialite; and Miss Johnson, a young maid in the Dowd household.
Auditions are on Monday, July 2, at 6 p.m. at Theatre 29. Actors will be asked to do cold readings from provided scripts.
