Even as “Young Frankenstein” opens this weekend at Theatre 29 in Twentynine Palms, it’s almost time to audition for the last play of the Theatre 29 2014 season. Reporter Dan Stork has the casting call for “Shakespeare in Hollywood”…
Auditions for the last production of Theatre 29’s 2014 season, “Shakespeare in Hollywood,” have been scheduled for Monday, October 6 at 6:30 p.m. at Theatre 29, 73637 Sullivan Road in Twentynine Palms. The show runs November 21st through December 20, with Friday and Saturday evening performances each weekend, and Sunday matinees on November 30 and December 14.
Here’s the concept: It’s 1934, and Shakespeare’s most famous fairies, Oberon and Puck, have magically materialized on the Warner Brothers Hollywood set of Max Reinhardt’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Instantly smitten by the glitz and glamour of show biz, the two are ushered onto the silver screen to play themselves! Blonde bombshells, movie moguls, and arrogant “asses” are tossed into loopy love triangles, with raucous results. Director John Wright will be seeking a cast of eight male and four female comedic performers, over 17 years old, for this production with various roles playing multiple parts; along with 4 to 6 ensemble performers. The roles being cast range in age from 20s to 50s. Auditions will consist of cold readings and a little dance, as there is a ballroom scene. Dress prepared to move.
Also, anyone 16 years or older wishing to participate backstage as a stagehand, set builder, or in costume construction is invited to come to the theater on the audition date. For more information about specific parts, check out the audition details on Theatre 29’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/Theatre29TwentyninePalms or the theater web site theatre29.org, or contact the director, John Wright at 760-368-8653.
