Theatre 29 will be kicking off their 2022-23 season with the classic family favorite “Schoolhouse Rock Live!”. While the community theatre has scheduled a formal presentation of their full season offering on August 12, this first show of the season is being revealed early to allow time for casting and rehearsal. The show is being directed by Theatre 29 veteran and teacher Katie Fleischman. She has called for open auditions Sunday, July 17, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. at the theater at 73637 Sullivan Road in Twentynine Palms.
Those auditioning should prepare 32 bars of a Broadway song, be prepared to read for any role and be dressed ready to move. Rehearsals will be held at the theater Monday through Friday from 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. “Schoolhouse Rock Live!” will run weekends at Theatre 29 from September 2nd through 18th with performances Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m.
Tom is a nervous schoolteacher about to start his first day of teaching. He tries to relax with a little TV when various characters representing facets of his personality materialize from the television set. Tom is hesitant at first to accept their help, but with a little friendly prodding, they help Tom see how great a teacher he has been all along! Reviving the catchy, playful Saturday morning hits of the 70s, Schoolhouse Rock Live! is both educational and enjoyable for everyone!
Fleischman is seeking actors over the age of 18 and will be casting the following characters:
- Tom: A young teacher who has just received his degree
- All characters other than Tom are parts of Tom’s personality come to life)
- Joe: The Cool Side- laid back and fun loving
- George: The Romantic Side- caring and in control
- Dori: The Goofy Side- silly and playful
- Dina: The Mature Side- thoughtful and grounded
- Shulie: The Sweet Side- genuine, an ingenue, loves math
