AUDITIONS FOR “HARVEY” AT THEATRE 29 MONDAY

Made popular in 1950 by the Jimmy Stewart film about a man and his invisible friend, a six-foot tall rabbit named “Harvey,” this fast-paced comedy is set in the 1940s era. Male characters include the leading role of Elwood P. Dowd, 35-55; Wilson, a devoted orderly in his 20s to 50s; and Judge Gaffney, an old family friend. The young Dr. Sanderson is in his 20s to 30s; and the older Dr. Chumley is in his 50s to 80s. Also needed is a male taxi driver. Female roles include Betty Chumley, the doctor’s kind, talkative wife; Veta Louise Simmons, the lead characters’ younger sister; Myrtle Mae Simmons, his self-centered young niece; Ruth Kelly, a young pretty nurse; Ethel Chauvenet an elite town socialite; and Miss Johnson, a maid. Auditions are on Monday, July 2, at 6 p.m. at Theatre 29, actors will be asked to do cold readings from provided scripts. “Harvey” will run August 17 through September 9 Friday and Saturday evenings at 7 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2:30.
