Since the electric light was invented over 150 years ago, star seekers and dark sky lovers have been battling light pollution:the results of artificial light from cities and homes shining into the atmosphere – essentially turning down the dark and making it more difficult to see all the dimmer features of the night sky.
Awareness and education are important in preserving the dark skies that we enjoy in the Mojave desert, and the 29 Palms Astronomy Club is teaming up with the Mojave Desert Land Trust to hold a light pollution talk on Tuesday, December 6th from 6 to 7PM. Join local astronomer Starman Steve and his telescope to view natural astronomical wonders as well as learn about the importance of keeping these stars viewable for generations to come.
