Assemblyman Chad Mayes, R-Yucca Valley, pushed for language “overwhelmingly” approved to the California Republican Party platform that condemns racism and xenophobia at the state GOP convention in Indian Wells last weekend. “We must be clear and firm, racism – in any form – has no place in the Republican Party or any political party for that matter,” Mayes tweeted Saturday, September 7. He called for the party to take a firm stand against bigotry following President Donald Trump’s tweets this summer attacking four liberal Democratic congresswomen of color. Mayes was the only state GOP lawmaker to publicly condemn Trump’s tweets.
