Since voters approved the hospital’s lease agreement with Tenet Healthcare in late June, there has been a lot of speculation over the future of current CEO Bob Tyk. Tonight’s special meeting of the Hi-Desert Memorial Healthcare District Board of Directors puts an end to the speculation. Reporter Mike Lipsitz explains…
Following consideration of a single action item to sign the formal documents authorizing the lease agreement between Tenet and Hi-Desert Medical Center, at tonight’s special 6 p.m. meeting of the Healthcare District Board, directors will adjourn to closed session for an item listed as “Personnel Interviews and Evaluations.” The position of chief executive officer will be the focus. Current CEO Bob Tyk has opted to step down due to the changing nature of the position. Tenet is expected to install their own CEO to run the hospital, while the Healthcare District’s Board of Directors will hire a different CEO to implement board policy and run the Foundation, the Family Health Clinics, and the other arms of the District not included in Tenet’s lease agreement. Three candidates are to interview during tonight’s closed session, presumably one will be selected to serve at the new District CEO. Tyk will remain with the District as a consultant during a six-month transition period when the new CEO is certain to face many challenges new to the District. Tonight’s meeting takes place at a new location at 6530 La Contenta Road in Yucca Valley.
