This Sunday morning grab a mug and make your way to Cap Rock in Joshua Tree National Park for the popular Artists’ Tea gathering. Reporter Heather Clisby has the details…
Nearly every Sunday morning, the majestic landscape of Joshua Tree National Park is the setting for the Artists’ Tea, a casual event that fosters conversation around art, nature and conservation. This week’s guest artist is Jim Toia, who works out of studios in New Jersey and Key West, Florida but has had his work exhibited throughout the US, Europe and the Far East.
Toia is currently in residence at BoxoProjects and will discuss his project, Crust Lust, a series of works that address the damaging effects of over-visitation and encroachment of the desert crust, known as cryptobiotic soil — the layer that deters erosion, provides cover, and allows other life forms to take hold.
The Artists’ Tea will be held at Cap Rock in Joshua Tree National Park from 9 to 11 am. Attendees should bring their own mugs. This event is free, though donations are accepted.
Joshua Tree National Park Superintendent David Smith stated that the event has not been canceled since it takes place outdoors, there are relatively few attendees to the event, and attendees are normally distanced from each other during the event.
