Artist Constance Old takes advantage of the excesses of our consumer economy in making untraditional hooked “rugs” as 3-dimensional wall hangings. Rebecca Havely has more about Constance Old…
Artist Constance Old went out recently with the Joshua Tree Clean Team to collect debris from the surrounding desert. Her first outing with the team of 11 people yielded 13 large bags in just one hour. Old uses these found objects to make 3-dimensional wall pieces in the traditional craft of rug hooking. One such piece has been installed as a public intervention along Highway 62 in Joshua Tree. Constance Old will hold an artist talk at Cap Rock in Joshua Tree National Park 9 a.m. Sunday, November 11 and an open house Saturday, November 17 from 2 to 5 p.m. at BoxoHouse, 62732 Sullivan Road in Joshua Tree.
