The Joshua Tree Highlands Artist Residency Program will hold an opening reception Friday night (July 11) for its new artists in residence. Jed Ochmanek pours oil-based enamel paint onto metal plates to produce his paintings. Writer Andrew Milward will read an excerpt from his non-fiction manuscript, “Jayhawker,” which examines his love for baseketall, and how that love is compromised by race, history, and politics. Zoe Childerley will show her work in progress for a film project, documenting her journey through Joshua Tree National Park. Shea Hembrey will exhibit drawings, paintings, and sculptures that are poetic models of the universe. The reception is set for 6 to 8 p.m. at the Joshua Tree Art Gallery in downtown Joshua Tree.
