Joshua Tree’s Art Queen gallery will be hosting the opening reception of the “Puppets” exhibition by artist Eric Leiser this Friday (December 2nd) behind Sun Alley Shops.
Leiser is an American filmmaker, animator, and holographer whose accomplishments, particularly in the field of stop-motion animation, have won him numerous awards and international acclaim. An alumni of CalArt’s Experimental Animation program, he creates animated and live action feature films and shorts as well as intricate works integrating animation, puppetry, painting, holography, live performance, and installation. He has exhibited works in numerous galleries, museums, and screenings across Europe, Asia, and America.
The exhibition will include an extensive array of handmade puppets from previous movie sets, on public display for the first time, allowing the audience to gleam a bit of the behind-the-scenes handiwork behind his enigmatic filmmaking. In addition to his miniature 3D marvels, the show will also feature numerous original drawings by Leiser.
This opening night reception will be from 5-8pm, and will include refreshments, a musical performance by local avant-orchestral artists Less Bells, as well as a special film screening and presentation by Leiser at the adjoining Sun Alley Stage.
In addition, Leiser will conduct a live stop-motion animation demonstration the following afternoon, on Saturday Dec 3rd, from 2-6pm in the Art Queen courtyard. Guests of all ages are welcome to stop by, enjoy some refreshments, check out Leiser’s outdoor holographic displays, and watch the artist create animation before their very eyes.
Art Queen is located in Joshua Tree behind Sun Alley Shops at 61855 Twenty Nine Palms Hwy.
