This weekend is not only the beginning weekend of the 18th annual Highway 62 Open Studio Art Tours, but also Art Cruise 29!, the art gallery crawl in Twentynine Palms. Is the 29 Palms Visitor Center and Art Gallery, with the opening of its new show, “No Place Like Home.” The opening reception is set for 2:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the visitor’s center. The 29 Palms Art Gallery will feature the works of John King, Darlene Morris, Selina Phanara, Jennifer Ruggiero, and Mark Spangenberg. The gallery’s opening reception is set for 5 to 7 p.m. Also open on Saturday is the Art-o-motive Gallery, on the corner of Highway 62 and National Park Drive. The gallery features the work of Sheliah Bailey, Duane Byrd, Stacy Byrd, and Elisabeth Pollnow. The Glass Outhouse Art Gallery in Wonder Valley features the work of Jeni Bate and Tami Wood, the opening reception is set for Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. The 29 Palms Creative Center and Gallery will host activities all day Saturday.
The fall art season continues in Twentynine Palms on Saturday, October 5, with a variety of “Art Cruise 29!” events, which are featured on the first Saturday of each month at several local galleries. The public is invited to visit the exhibitions, meet the artists, and enjoy artistic hospitality. Admission is free to all events.
This month the “Art Cruise 29!” First Saturday events coincide with the first weekend of the 18th annual Hwy 62 Open Studio Art Tours, so some of the artists showing in the galleries are also participating in the art tours, which run 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for three consecutive weekends, October 5-6, 12-13, 19-20.
The 29 Palms Art Gallery will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, and will host a reception on the gallery patio from 5 to 7 p.m. Featured this month are art tours artists John King, photography; Darlene Morris, mixed media paintings; Selina Phanara, ceramics and collage; Jennifer Ruggiero ceramics, mixed media, and photography; and Mark Spangenberg, paintings. The gallery is located at 74055 Cottonwood Drive at National Park Drive.
Artomotive Gallery at 6540 National Park Drive on the corner of 29 Palms Hwy. will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, with refreshments and socializing, and it will remain open Saturday and Sunday for all three weekends of the Hwy 62 Art Tours. Featured artwork includes photography, metal work, assemblage, furniture, painting, clay art, and sculpture by artists Sheliah Bailey, Duane Byrd, Stacy Byrd, and Elisabeth Pollnow.
The 29 Palms Visitor Center and Gallery will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will host a reception on Saturday, October 5, from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. with music and refreshments for its group exhibition, “No Place Like Home,” hosted by the city’s Public Arts Advisory Committee. Maps and information about the Hwy 62 Art Tours and the city’s Oasis of Murals also are available at the visitor center, open daily at 73484 29 Palms Hwy. at Desert Queen Avenue downtown.
The Glass Outhouse Art Gallery in Wonder Valley features the mixed media work of artists Jeni Bate and Tami Wood in October and will host an opening reception for artists and the public on Saturday, October 5 from 5 to 9 p.m. The eclectic gallery and art installation property is located five miles east of downtown Twentynine Palms at 77575 29 Palms Hwy. at Thunder Road.
The 29 Palms Creative Center and Gallery will host art activities from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, featuring pottery painting, canvas painting, instruction, and artwork for sale at 6847 Adobe Road, four blocks south of the intersection at Adobe and the highway downtown.
