The Sheriff’s Department Arson squad is investigating a fire that burned an abandoned motor home to the ground Thursday. County Fire Battalion Chief Donnie Viloria said firefighters were called about 5:20 p.m. to the fire in a remote section of the desert on Marks Road, near the intersection of Hillcrest Drive. He added that getting to the location required 4-wheel drive. The fire sent up a huge column of black smoke that was visible from Yucca Valley. No one was at the scene and neighbors reported the motorhome had been abandoned at the location for several months. The fire burned only the motor home; no vegetation was involved.
