ARSON AND ATTEMPTED MURDER IN LUCERNE VALLEY

An Apple Valley man was arrested Wednesday, accused of setting five fires in Lucerne Valley, and for attempted murder and assault on a peace officer. According to a Sheriff’s press release, firefighters were called to a house fire in the 11800 block of Moreno Road in Lucerne Valley just before 1 a.m. Wednesday. While there, deputies received reports of additional vegetation fires. During the investigation, evidence led to the suspect, Marc Cardona, 34, at his girlfriend’s home in the 11900 block of Cove Road. When deputies attempted to arrest Cardona, he tried to flee on his bicycle, and then fought with a deputy who was trying to handcuff him and place him under arrest. Deputies later determined that Cardona had tried to set his girlfriend’s home on fire before he fled. Marc Cardona was arrested for investigation of five counts of arson, attempted murder, and for assaulting a police officer. He was booked at the Victor Valley Jail with his bail set at $175,000.
