A Joshua Tree woman was arrested Monday, accused of DUI hit and run after witnesses said she crashed into a car stopped at a traffic light, and then fled. According to a press release from the California Highway Patrol, about 5:35 p.m. Monday, Rachel Stevens, 31, was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer eastbound on Highway 62. As she approached Rotary Way near Copper Mountain College, she rear-ended a 2003 Chevy Malibu, driven by Kathleen Clonch, 51, of Yucca Valley, who was stopped in the number 2 lane at the traffic light. Stevens then fled the scene and continued driving eastbound on the highway. Witnesses to the crash called 911 and followed Stevens to a home in the 6700 block of Indian Cove Road, where she was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence, hit-and-run, and, because her 4-year-old son was in the car with her at the time of the crash, felony child endangerment. Rachel Stevens was booked at the Morongo Basin Jail with her bail set at $100,000.
