ARMED ROBBERY AT PAYLESS SHOES IN YUCCA VALLEY MONDAY

The Sheriff’s Department is investigating an armed robbery at the Payless Shoe Store in Yucca Valley. About 6:30 p.m. Monday, the suspect entered the store in the 57900 block of 29 Palms Highway, lifted his shirt to show a gun, and demanded the store clerk give him cash from the register and the safe. The suspect then left the store with money and a pair of basketball shoes. Deputies and a Sheriff’s helicopter conducted an unsuccessful extensive area check, and also set up a perimeter in an attempt to locate the suspect. The suspect is identified as a white male, about 40 to 50 years old, 170 pounds, wearing a tan camping hat, Hawaiian-style yellow and orange button-up shirt, khaki-style pants, and with a black backpack. Anyone with information should call the Sheriff’s Department at 760-366-4175.
