A mandate requiring members of the Armed Forces to be vaccinated against COVID-19 has been rescinded by the Department of Defense.

A memo issued by the United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin III rescinded the 2021 mandate, as part of 2023’s National Defense Authorization Act.

In the memo, Secretary Austin encouraged all Service members, civilian employees, and contractor personnel to get vaccinated and boosted regardless of requirements.
